We were very pleased to welcome Former pupil Bleiddian to our Intermediate classes last week. Bleiddian continues to do well at KS Academy where he is preparing for his advance 2 examination under the watchful eye of Jonathan Payne who is a First Soloist dancer with the Birmingham Royal Ballet Company. Jonathan has been with the company since completing his training with the Royal Ballet upper School which I believe to be approximately 28 years. He still dances character roles for the company, but is now focusing on teaching/coaching younger dancers. This is a wonderful opportunity for Bleiddian especially as Jonathan began his dancing career studying the Cecchetti Method and continues to enjoy and promote the method.
This term the students have worked really hard preparing for our examination session which is due to take place July 26th -27th – and 28th, at the Morriston Community Centre. During this session we will be entering students for both Grade and Standard exams. Also some of our older students will be taking the professional Cecchetti Intermediate examination which will allow them to gain membership status with the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing – ISTD . We wish them every success.
There has been a wonderful program on BBC 2, Sunday evening. “Dancing in Nutcracker ” A fantastic documentary about the Sugar Plum Fairy and her Prince, preparing for their Christmas performance of Nutcracker. It showed the young children from the Royal Ballet school also rehearsing with all the excitement that goes with performing on stage. It was a wonderful insight into what happens during the run up to a performance at the Royal Opera house for a large Ballet production. Fitting costumes – putting on make-up as well as showing the fitting of the wigs and hair pieces. A real gem of a program which one should be able to see on BBC iplayer or catch up.
This winter term we have been all very busy as we are preparing for our next Ballet performance. We will be performing “Peter in Never Never Land” at the Princess Royal Theatre, Port Talbot on February 22nd – 23rd – 24th 2018.
The children and students have worked really hard and Miss Abi and the students in the senior classes have produced some excellent choreography.
Everyone is getting very excited and I’m sure after Christmas we will all begin to feel those “butterflies” in anticipation of the wonderful week that we will spend in the theatre. Rehearsing the early part of the week and then the performances on the Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
The Summer term was very successful with many children trying Standard and Grade examinations. We had a 100 per cent pass rate again this year so congratulations all round. In June some our students auditioned for the Welsh Cecchetti Associates and we are proud to announce that all our students were successful and attended their first workshop on Sunday 10th September. This was held in the studios of the Welsh Ballet Company in Newport. It was a very exciting day where the students did a ballet class followed by a musical theatre class.
During the last week of the summer term parents were invited to watch demonstration classes of the students work and comments received were very complimentary.
On the last Thursday we were fortunate to have a visit from ex-pupil Bleiddian Bazzard who is now doing a full time vocational training session at the KS Academy. Bleiddian also brought along another student from KS Academy, Suzanna. She is a delightful girl and a beautiful dancer. Suzanna and Bleiddian both joined in the Grade 5 class, much to the delight of our pupils and parents.
Bleiddian and Suzanna then joined in our senior class and we ended the evening with Bleiddian teaching our senior student his latest choreographic piece which had won him a prize in the latest choreographic competition held in Warrington and judged by Birmingham Royal Ballet Soloist Jonathan Payne.
